The Pokémon Company will have face-to-face VGC events for the 2023 season, and while you gather your team, you are probably wondering if you have all the clear rules.
Do not worry because we have everything you need to know about all the rules and prohibitions of the Pokémon VGC 2023 season for Pokémon Scarlet and Purple.
Rules and prohibitions of the Pokémon VGC 2023 format
The rules for this Pokémon VGC season are relatively simple:
Legendary and paradox Pokémon are prohibited;
Any other Pokémon with a Pokédex pale number is allowed
The games are exclusively double battles, with players who choose four of the six Pokémon in their group.
Each Pokémon of your team must be unique;
This means that you can’t have a Pom Style Oratorio and a Sense Style Oratorio on your team
None of your Pokémon can have the same retained object.
Pokémon below level 50 do not touch, but anything higher is reversed at level 50
The battles have a 20-minute time limit, including a previous view of the 90-second team and a 7-minute limit per player.
Players have 45 seconds each turn to select an attack.
As great as seeing Portion and Myrmidon together with Paradox Pokémon of their respective games, this would probably be a dominated combination, so the prohibition is justified.
The pirated Pokémon are prohibited as they have always been.
There are few reasons to bring Pokémon below level 50 to a tournament, since their statistics will be weaker without any benefit.

To reach six different retained elements, you will want to consider berries, Focus Sash, Violate, Leftovers, Choice items and protection elements such as Clear Amulet and Utility Umbrella.
The elements that cause change, such as the expulsion button, have a situational utility and can be the right option for your equipment.
The Pokémon VGC 2023 season officially begins on January 1.
