Players are passionate about their hobbies. Internet is passionate about… everything. Put these two things together, and you get a lot of passionate opinions. A game could cure cancer or reverse global warming, and a vocal segment would complain about its Level Design. Let’s admit it, internet loves the controversial games.
The games of our list are not bad. In fact, many of them have achieved good results. These games are not disappointing either. Well, some people think yes. What they are controversial. They generated a lot of discussions and disagreements. In some cases, developers listened and made changes. In other cases, controversial games are what they are, we love them or hate them.
So, in a totally arbitrary order, here are six games on which many people have gone up.
There was a lot of pressure on Return to be the first major PS5 system of 2021. The Developer House market has delivered a rogue lite on the theme of science fiction with a fight at Soulsellike. He had strong production values. It was quite uncompromising, at least for a triple-to-public title. Return also had some bugs, but they were finally corrected.
Patched or not, the biggest reproach about Return concerned its intermediate level backup mechanism. There were none. Death anywhere has resulted in a restart of the level from the beginning. The elements generated procedurally did not help. While Roguelike fans are used to this mechanism, occasional players are not. They complained, and loudly. The result is that Return now has an intermediate level backup system, but that it improves the game or deletes a basic concept is open to debate.
Diablo II is one of the most appreciated and influential action RPGs of all time. The game of twenty-one printed its mechanics on generations of Hack-and-Slash looters. Blizzard and Vicarious Visions have joined forces for Diablo II Resurrected, who gave the game aged a graphic lifting. Unfortunately, that’s just about everything he did. Many of the most boring aspects of the game stayed. The balancing of the characters of Diablo II was always disabled, the movements were not fluid, and the inventory was still painful. Resurrected has lived in the imaginary country, not quite a remake, but a little more than a re-skin.
The controversy here is that for many players, the biggest problem was with Blizzard and his parent company. Linked into legal proceedings and stories of workplace violations, the powerful players of the game industry — and consumers — interpellate Blizzard. Many players think it’s wrong to support the business by buying its products. Others sympathize with creative stuck in the middle. There is almost no way for Diablo II resurrected NEW receive collateral damage.
Arcane Death loop is a first-person shooting game from the studio that created the Dishonored games. Death loop is an elegant action game taking place in an alternative of the 1960s. It was a critical blow, but many players were less satisfied. The players were confused by Death loop’s systems. They thought the enemy of low level was too easy. The invasion mechanism was strange and did not work well.
The developers listened. Recent hotfixes and updates have made enemies more difficult. The invasions of IA are more difficult. Other quality of life changes have made Death loop easier to play, without changing the basic game. This raises a question, however. Do consumers always right? Aside from the bugs, should the developer stick to his vision?
There are many arguments about Aliens: Fire team Elite. It is a game of action in the third person taking place in the popular universe of Alien. It’s a CLONE OF LEFT 4 DEAD, but in space and with extraterrestrials. Although he is played in solo, it was designed for the cooperative game. In fact, without a couple of friends, the game is a boring chore. Even ALEC friends, the action is repetitive. Although it does a good job to honor the Alien Franchise, the Level Design is not very interesting.
So where is the polemic? It looks like a bad game. In this case, the disagreement is about the solo campaign. It just does not work without other humans. And yet, the developer claims that yes. The Companions of the AI are ineffective. A Roguelike mechanic also punishes the player in case of failure. Aliens: Fire team Elite should have been a multiplayer game only.
Compilation of new ideas and favorites missing, Battlefield 2042 is the poster controversy. Of all the games on our list, it could be the most divided opinions.
Fans of a longstanding franchise like Battlefield generally hate change. They especially dislike the changes that are not supported by solid mechanics. Battlefield 2042 has introduced many new things like wing suit, grappling hooks and a sort of strange Specialists called hero class. The additions ranged from just ok to terribly bad.
The list of what is missing is even longer. There is no server browser, no statistics page, no voice chat in the game. In addition, there is no way to create a squad and motion options are limited. Moreover, there is no campaign. At all. The contents of the season pass is MIA until 2022.
What est it is beset by a huge number of technical problems and bugs. Just a sampling includes resilient, problems of recurrence and problems that block players in the geometry of the world. The developers note rare cases that can cause serious flicker of our lighting systems, which can potentially trigger those with photosensitive conditions.
Despite the enemies who hate the game, some players like part of the near future. They like chaos and typical action of Battlefield. Random Tornadoes are exciting, and play specialist seems to be a hit with some. If Battlefield 2042 is not an outright failure, is certainly a very qualified success.
Although the order of the controversial games on this list is arbitrary, New World must be included in the list. Or down. Anyway, the flagship MMORPG Game Amazon has been in the news almost daily. Usually not in a good way.
The problems started from day one, with huge queues waiting and waiting times. This is often the case with new MMO, but Amazon does not seem prepared. Some players were shocked when running the game with high graphics settings blocked their expensive GPU. The game had bugs, and almost immediately, the players began to exploit. Some players used the chat game to crash unsuspecting players operating systems. The problems did not stop.
Although other MMORPGs have problems with command economies by players, New World has no NPC vendor. In addition to the usual exploits and bugs that players have benefited to trick objects, there are bigger issues. Currently, the economy of the New World game is in free fall. Instead of inflation, the opposite happens. Players accumulate coins. They barter them instead of spending money with sellers players. The money is worth less and less.
Although there is fun to be had in the New World, the game looks more and more a collection of bad ideas. Amazon Games struggling to repair leaks on a ship that continues to take water.
